Nigger Dolls

This is my first real body of work ever, from Sulpture II at SEMO in 2012.

These pieces serve as a historical and contemporary social commentary. They reference the old racial toys of the 1930s and 1920s, and the social novelty that came with being black. While these types of racist toys are no longer being made, I believe the attitudes of blackness being a novelty still exist. These pieces were inspired when I first heard someone tell me that they "always wanted a black friend."
